Upcycling In Developing Countries
Pezzeculiar, we believe that sustainability should be at the heart of fashion. This is why we adopt upcycling practices, reusing waste materials and recycled fabrics from various industries, thus reducing the production of new materials and limiting the environmental impact. This process allows us to transform what would have been destined for landfills into unique and original designs.
One of the emblematic places for understanding the importance of our approach is Haiti where huge piles of textile waste from USA accumulate, damaging the landscape and local ecosystem. Our choice to work with recycled materials stems from the desire to combat this situation, helping to reduce the influx of waste in developing countries.
Where do we source our fabrics?
We carefully select materials for our garments in line with our philosophy of sustainability and environmental respect. Part of our fabrics comes from My Little Coupon, a company that offers high-quality production surplus. Through this collaboration, we can purchase fabrics that maintain exceptional beauty and quality, while also preventing valuable materials from going to waste.
In addition, we regularly visit the Harare market in Zimbabwe, where we personally select discarded and second-hand clothes. At this local market, we find a variety of materials that, through our creative process, are transformed into unique and innovative garments.
This approach allows us to give new life to clothes that would otherwise be discarded, helping to reduce the environmental impact of textile waste.
This combination of high-quality surplus materials and the reuse of second-hand fabrics not only ensures that we maintain a high standard in our products but also guarantees that no resources are wasted. Each Pezzeculiar garment tells a story of creativity, ethics, and environmental respect, making fashion a means to support local communities and promote positive change.
